Silent Saturday: Exploring Astoria, OR

Saturday, August 28, 2021

My friends from Utah visited me this week and we had a bunch of grand adventures! Here’s a sneak peek into a few of our favorite places located in Astoria, Oregon. We took pics in front of the Goonies House, picked up seafood takeout at Mo’s on the Columbia River, and had a picnic at the Astoria Column.

The Goonies House – 368 38th St., Astoria, OR 97103
“No Cars” but “Ok to Walk Up” (private road to The Goonies House)

Mo’s Restaurant – 101 15th St, Astoria, OR 97103
View of Columbia River from Mo’s parking lot
Bowl of Mo’s Slumgullion (New England-style Clam Chowder w/bacon, topped with bay shrimp and saltine crackers)
Picnic at The Astoria Column
View of canoe & Young’s River from parking lot at Astoria Column (parking is $5 per vehicle and the pass lasts all year, so keep it to take all your friends who visit)
164 steps to the top of Astoria Column
Tradition is to throw $1 wooden airplane from the top of Astoria Column, and call out where you are flying next (throwing towards the East gets the best air)
View of Saddle Mountain (South of Astoria Column)
Young’s Bay (West of Astoria Column)
Astoria-Megier Bridge connecting OR & WA (North of Astoria Column)

Thank you for viewing,
