Jaime in Hawaii in July: Welcome to Historic Kohala

Gracious Friends

I am so happy and grateful I made it to Hawaii safely, and especially thankful for my gracious friends who arranged an airport pickup, car to drive, and a place to stay for the entire two weeks on the Big Island. Anyone who knows about the car rental situation on the islands right now, knows that is a true blessing.

Welcome to Historic Kohala

On the first day of my trip, I settled into the small area of Kohala at the north end of the Big Island. This was a day of relaxing and recouping after a full day of traveling, a routine self-care ritual. There was a visitor’s center nearby with an ATM, so I walked there but saw it was closed to the public. I noticed some historical markers next to the center and snapped a few pictures of the surrounding area to learn about the history of the islands.

A Little R&R, History, and Planning

While I am here for the next few weeks, I am going to be visiting all  five of the National Parks on the Big Island, and most of them have to do with the history of King Kamehameha The Great. I grabbed some food and headed back to my room to start planning what I would explore while I am here. Historic Kohala was the perfect place to get started with Jaime in Hawaii in July!
